Remember jigsaw puzzles? They haven’t faded out yet! In an age when we are doing many of our old pastimes on iPads or phones, it is extremely relaxing to do a jigsaw puzzle with your hands … and alongside other people (gasp).
The first jigsaw puzzle was produced around 1760 by a London mapmaker. Until about 1820, jigsaw puzzles were primarily educational tools. Cardboard puzzles were first introduced in the late 1800’s and were primarily used as children’s puzzles.
The Golden Age of jigsaw puzzles was 1920s–1930s, with companies producing a wide range of puzzles. One sales strategy was to make cardboard puzzles more intricate and difficult, thus appealing as much to adults as to children. Another was to use jigsaw puzzles as premiums for advertising purposes.
Amazingly, the appeal of the jigsaw puzzle has stood the test of time and is so relevant today: Puzzles provide a good deal of entertainment for a small price; can be a solitary or group activity; can contribute to your brain health; and are “recyclable,” in that once completed, they can be passed on to someone else. Sound familiar?
So power-down and give one of our puzzles a try … you won’t regret it! We have several different ones available, at just $18.95 each.
